“…if culture was a house, then language was the key to the front door, to all the rooms inside.” – Kahled Hosseini, And The Mountains Echoed
Program Description
The ESL and Digital Literacy Program is a pivotal step in the lives of refugees and immigrants towards independence and self-sufficiency. It opens up opportunities for social integration, employment, and personal growth. By breaking down language and technological barriers, they can connect with their new community, access vital services, and pursue educational and professional goals.
This comprehensive 12-week course provides participants with practical English lessons that cover speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. Additionally, the digital literacy program provides training in basic computer skills such as sending emails, filling out online forms, creating and saving documents, and other capabilities needed for everyday communication and job readiness.
Volunteering
We are currently seeking volunteers for our ESL/Digital Literacy program. Our mission is to transform immigrants and refugees into meaningful employment and economic stability.
Classes take place from 9:30-12:30 Monday-Thursday. We particularly need a volunteer who would be available for the digital literacy program from 9:30-12:30 on Thursdays. Please note, you don’t have to be available the entire time; any amount of help is appreciated.
As a volunteer you would support the ESL Teacher in classroom management and provide one-on-one support to students to ensure that they understand and follow instructions and assignments. If you can support our ESL/Digital Literacy program, your availability will help us meet our goal.
